Hi everybody,
This has little to do with Linux but more with security. If this request
is off topic, simply diregard it and I won't do it again, I promise :).
As the Lilux people seem to have legal knowledge about things in
Luxembourg and great ideas/advices on how things work with government, I
thought I could ask this here.
I happened to bump into two 15/16 year old guys who were wardriving in
my "Cite". I was quite impressed. Actually, they were by foot. One
holding the PC and the antenna, the other holding a piece of paper
probably writing the details of their discoveries.
Well, this is only my personal opinion but I cannot help myself and
think about what they would do if they found an unprotected network.
My questions are:
How to make people aware of the dangers?
Write to the city hall to ask them to produce a small piece of paper and
put it into people's brief cases?
Organize some kind of event? with whom? by whom? Maybe this was already
done?
Are there organizations that care about those awarness programs and
would be glad to help?
Does anybody know if foreign governments have such programs?
As you see, I don't know much but I was willing to try something.
Thanks for any suggestions/advices/ideas :)

Hi,
I'm getting fed-up with "hidden settings" which the user (apparently)
can't change.
For specific reasons, I use mainly two mail clients, namely : KMail and
Evolution. I was somewhat surprised that this worked (using KDE) since
AFAIK Evolution is a Gnome app but it does work.
What I don't like and don't know how to change is the "default" browser
settings which each app seems to define and redefine whenever and
however they like.
Whenever I click on an URL in a mail I read through Evolution, it
launches an Epyphany window to show the webpage.
Whenever I click on an URL in a mail I read through Kmail/Kontact, it
launches an Konquerror window to show the webpage.
Now, I want to use FireFox and not the other products. And I'm fed up
with having to close the window, copy the URL and paste it in Firefox.
I've tried every parameter I could find and identify.
Does anyone here have any idea how one can parameter the mail clients
NOT to use their (imaginary) default browsers, but the one the user
wants to use?
thanks for any info
Serge

I use SuSE 9.2 too, and have also problems with USBstick (Kingmax 256MB).
I have a similar problem on my AMD64 System. I plug the stick, it isn't
recognised, I unplug it, wait ~10s and plug it again. The Stick is recognised
and all works fine.
On another System the stick is immediately recognised, but after a while
while copying, an error appeared saying that the stick isn't mounted
anymore.
After unplugging it and replug, it works fine.
I don't know if this problem is done by the @#£?+*&% subfs ( It doesn't work
fine) or by the kernel. (Chipset).
The funniest is, with another Stick (Fujitsu-Siemens 16MB), I don't have
these problems.

Hi there!
I've got the following configuration: Acer Travelmate 540 Laptop (P4)
running SuSE 9.2. Sometimes, to transfer data, I connect an USB Memory
Stick (TwinMOS Mobile Disk IV USB 2.0 256MB / M23), which is always
detected as a USB storage devie. When copying files to the local HDD,
Linux freezes completely immediately after the copy/ies finished. Mouse,
keyboard don't react anymore, if switching to another console via
Ctrl-Alt-F1,F2,... or Ctrl-Alt-Del to shutdown doesn't work anymore. I
have to switch off the PC! Has anyone got a clue where this problem may
come from and how to resolve it?
Thanks for your help

Hi all,
Did anybody already download and use the skype P2P telephony tool ? Heard
that its relatively nice, however do I have my concerns about the securiy
inside, they talk about end-to-end enreyption, but as it's closed source I
can't really check its quality.
Has anybody knowledge about the quality of skype's security ? As it's a
Luxembourg company, my interests are of courye also on a professional
basis ;)
thanks for any answers, links, etc.
ciao,
pst

Hi,
this Heise article:

sounds like extortion to me... MS threatens pulling it's Navision
out of Denmark as "thank you" for Denmarks position against software
patents.
Nice tactics once more...

Hi guys,
usually I set up my mail delivery so that postings from lists go to
different directories. I do this using procmail. But with the lilux
listing this does not work because the mail headers do not contain the
necessary information.
Is it possible to set up the mailman system to add or change the
"Reply-To:" line to "Reply-To: lilux-help(a)lilux.lu"?. This would also
keep the threads posted on the list alive so everyone benifits from the
answers to posted queries.
To give an example: This mail may interest Jonny X on this list and he
may look forward to answers to it. If the mailman system makes the
reply-to change he will get the answer if one is sent. If mailman does
not make the change the he will only get the replies if the person
making the reply adds lilux-help to the To: or Cc: lines, which is
arbitrary. At the moment it seems to me that lots of answers to queries
immediately go off line, which is too bad, because it limits the value
of the listing archives.
It's just an idea, you may have reasons not to do it, but it would help
me in keeping my mailboxes in order.
Thanks for any replies,
Dirk....
PS reply to the list not to me.
Hi,
since my trusty Logitech wireless keyboard seems to have died (reloaded
the accus, reboot, didn't work out - no idea what's broken), I replaced
it with one of those "unbreakable" IBM keyboards pilfered from god knows
where - it's wonderful typing btw, these IBM thingies really are
something else.
What bothers me is that this ol' IBM keyboard really does look battered,
i.e. unclean - dark stains on the keys etc. (otherwise it's fine).
What's the best way to clean this up? Use of acetone or whatever?
I'd prefer not to have to take it all apart.
Greets & TIA, Eric
