As announced yesterday by M. J-L Schiltz, cable-TV will be fully
digital in Luxembourg as of jan. 1st 2008. What are the consequences
for people watching TV on their Linux-Computers and/or using Software
such as Freevo, Mythtv,...?
As connecting a std-alone decoder isn't really an option, what are the
other possibilities?
I know that actually Coditel uses Mediacypher to encrypt their network
and Imagin (Eltrona + Siemens) are using Cryptoworks. Simple (without
CI) DVB-C Tuners …

successfully use cards like TechnoTrend-budget C-1500 (+ CI) or

Dear Linux friends,
I took over recently a Linux server with Suse Linux 8 and Samba server
software with valuable data from an office-dissolution. Unfortunately I
do not get it integrated in the Windows XP environment of my computers.
Obviously there are problems with the so-called ACl (AccessClientList),
over which Linux accesses the windows file system and the releases are
probably steered. Unfortunately I am not a specialist and claim
therefore professional aid for the server-configuration including ADSL -
the work is naturally paid . Who can help me?

Je me suis chargé d'un serveur Linux avec des données précieuses d'une
dissolution du bureau avec les logiciels de Suse-Linux 8 et Samba-Server
installés . Malheureusement, je ne l'obtiens pas connecté dans
l'environnement de Windows XP de mes ordinateurs .
Évidemment il y a des problèmes avec le prétendu ACL (AccessClientList),
au-dessus duquel Linux accède au système de fichiers de Windows et les
droits d'accès sont probablement orientés.
Malheureusement, je ne serais pas un spécialiste et deviendrais
volontiers avoir configuré le serveur comprenant l'ADSL d'un
professionnel - naturellement contre du paiement - . Qui peut m'aider ?

Hi
I have a little problem with Firefox.
I use this browser for different things, e.g. for webmail. So it stays
the all day open.
I now have the problem that firefox eats my ressources as a pacman :)
After a few hours of turning (4-5), it crunches(!) over 50% of the memory.
I close then firefox and open it right after.
Is that normal or what happens?

System administrator position
We seek to employ a part-time system administrator to care for the
FFII's machines. The administrator will be working for about 10 hours
per week and be paid 500 euro per month. Vacation may be from zero to
5 weeks per year, at the administrator's option, and will be
unpaid. If the administrator needs to charge VAT when invoicing the
FFII, the VAT shall be in addition to the 500 euro. System
administration will be performed from wherever the administrator
wishes, by ssh into the FFII servers.
During these 10 hours the administrator must keep the machines in
running order; perform trivial daily maintenance tasks such as
creation of mailing lists and user accounts; pick up jobs from a
queue, supervised by the IT manager; and do any extra jobs requested
by the board and the IT manager. Such work may be:
* The preparation of backup and recovery plans, and of security
policy.
* The installation and setup of an issue tracking system.
* Investigation of server security.
Response to non-urgent tasks, such as creation of user-accounts and
lists, should be 3 working days; for urgent tasks, such as the
correction of web site failure, it should not be more than 1 working
day; cases of unavailability must be agreed on with the IT manager
beforehand.
The administrator shall be writing down where he spends his time, and
periodically submit this information to the IT manager. Such
administrative work is part of the duties to be performed within the
10 hours.
The administrator must be comfortable with Debian, Apache, Exim,
SpamAssasin, Mailman, PostgreSQL, and at least one of Perl or Python
(Python is preferred). (This list is given as an indication of what
software you will need to maintain; if you miss one of these, it
doesn't necessarily mean you will be excluded from consideration.)
Since the administrator will have access to all data of FFII, he will
be required to sign a NDA.
Please send your application and CV in plain text (no more than 60
lines, up to 72 or so characters per line), to board(a)ffii.org, the
subject line being "Application for sysadmin position", no later than
28 February 2007. All applications received within the deadline will
be considered; you may try to apply later, in which case we may or we

Ich muss das Projekt maachen, da ich jetzt momentan auf einer 13e
informatique technicien bin, und das ist mein Abschlussprojekt.
Ich muss wenigstens eine Note von 30 bekomme, damit ich zum Examen
zugelassen bin, andernfalls, weder ich nicht zugelassen.
Könnt Ihr mir bitte helfen?
